MPAA is being completely irresponsible to our society

Unbelievable. Ridiculous. Irresponsible. Insert other annoyed/angry adjectives here.

The BULLY movie SHOULD be shown to every teenager age 13+,… or at the very least every teenager should have the ability to see the movie, if they so choose. The act of bullying in our society is a systemic issue that impacts everyone. 13 million kids will be bullied this year, alone.

But instead, the Motion Picture Association of America has decided to give it an R rating. What? Cool. So now the age group it could impact the most won’t be able to see it (unless they sneak into the theatre). SUCH an irresponsible decision, MPAA.

I don’t ask for much on Tumblr. Heck, I hardly ever post anything other than cute animal videos & lyrics from songs, but if anyone out there comes across this post…. PLEASE sign this petition. You could save a life by doing so. Also. Spread the word.

Girl, this is exactly how I would react if I got to play with a sloth for a day. AMAZING.

Sexist marketing & gender role woes.

This is a little girl I can kick it with. No, seriously.

I mean I played with GI Joes growing up—the real American [super]heroes. Barbie & I hung out for a bit; but it usually ended with me pulling her head off, cutting/dying her hair, or when my brother got involved setting limbs on fire (don’t try that at home kids).

One day [hopefully in my lifetime] we will stop socializing little girls to think that they should be the nurturers, princesses, caretakers, etc. One day, little girls will be able to pick up a superhero and it be totally ok. Or better yet, said superhero will exist right next to that pair of dress-up pink princess slippers & feather boa in the toy aisle.

Sexist marketing sucks, but let’s face the facts people, our society & culture defines the marketing strategies by creating & amplifying these gender roles in every day life. The change & cultural improvement happens with us first,… the rest will slowly follow.

Ok, hopping off my soap box now. Cool.
